about
Brisbane band Tycho Brahe has a progressive powersynth sound created by Ken Evans, Georgina Emery, Andy Walls and Francis Tohill (more: profiles).
Seasoned veterans of the live music scene, Tycho regularly gig around Brisbane and beyond. Between shows they retire to the Tycho Room, a bunker full of synthesisers, beat machines, science fiction merchandise and - usually - Max the Studio Cat.
Tycho have released several records, traded remixes with a number of bands and appeared on compilations the world over (more: releases).

youtube sightings
A couple of Tycho things have appeared on Youtube....
First up, some live footage of our performance at the Tivoli with John Foxx last Sunday - it's part of "Dislocation". You can't see Stephen on the drums in this, but if you watch very closely you will spot Andy hammering out the bassline on his trusty Roland Axis keytar.
Also, a very cool little clip for the Tycho Brahe remix of Real Life's "Imperfection", from the "Dance Dance Revolution 3" X-Box game. The full remix (which had a little more bass than the audio on offer here) was available with the US release of Real Life's album, errrrrm, "Imperfection"! An extended remix was also released on the CD single, "Oblivion".

Cheers!
Kenphotos from the john foxx gig
Mil Clayton has posted some photos online from the show we did with John Foxx the other night...and what a fantastic night it was! John Foxx and Louis Gordon put on possibly THE most awesome live electronic show I've ever witnessed, and we had a great weekend in general hanging out with the Foxx entourage, introducing them to the pleasures of Australian beer and the perils of Australian wildlife. But I digress....the photos are here.
john foxx support may 4th
We're very pleased to announce that we will be supporting electronic music pioneer and original Ultravox frontman John Foxx at his Brisbane show on May 4th at The Tivoli.
Doors open at 7pm, Tycho is onstage at 7:30pm, followed by John's Multimedia live performance of his acclaimed "Tiny Colour Movies", and then the main event.
Regular drummer and well known Scotsman-about-town Francis is waylaid with some family commitments at the moment, so former TB drummer Stephen Birt will be filling in for this show.
Tickets are $57 and available through Ticketek and Rockinghorse Records, go here for links and info: http://www.yourgigs.com.au/event/?50791414
More info on John Foxx can be found here: http://www.metamatic.com/
Cheers!

military option boxcar edit free download
When we started putting together the Transatlantic remix CD, we were fortunate enough to have Boxcar remix "Military Option" for us. For those who don't know about this awesome Billboard charting Aussie electronic act, click HERE.
The radio edit version of the remix ended up on Transatlantic, and an extended version was on the Free EP. And now for your listening and free download pleasure, I've edited together parts of both to create a special edit version on the Tycho Myspace page, not available anywhere else! Play it loud!
Whilst this download is free, a working band does have costs to cover, so if you enjoy what you hear I would urge you to support us by buying a CD or download from CD Baby.
Cheers,
Ken Evans
assemblage 23/ angel theory/ tycho brahe gig report
Fellow Briswegian Mil Clayton has posted a report on her Myspace blog with links to photos about last Friday's show with Assemblage 23, Angel Theory and ourselves. We had an awesome time at this show, sold a bucket of CDs and went home happy after seeing a quality interstate and overseas act. Check it out at: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=115976940&blogID=344787142

dftw video on rage....again!
The music video for Don't Feel That Way is being broadcast on ABC TV's "RAGE" once again this Friday night/ early Saturday morning, between 4:30 and 5:00am!
Even Santa only gets to come once a year (ooooooh, rude double entendre!) but you can get a second sexy helping of Tycho on your telly tonight ;-)
photos from upgrade and under the blue moon
The photos page now has photos from the Upgrade and Under The Blue Moon gigs... including a cameo by a ninja!
tycho on rage

Tonight Tycho will appear on Rage! The video for Don't Feel This Way will be on in the wee hours: r a g e | playlist - Friday, 7 December 2007.

assemblage 23 support
Under The Blue Moon was a fantastic night - an awesome venue with great sound and a bunch of great people. Tycho were even molested onstage by cavorting ninjas! A couple of old favourites - Tainted Who and In Your Heart - were dusted off for the show which was performed in three piece mode, minus Francis, who wasn't able to make the show. A selection of photos plus some from last month's Upgrade show will be online soon. The next show, back in full four piece line-up, is on January 4th with Angeltheory (Melbourne) and Assemblage 23 (USA)!
dftw video uploaded
The music video for Don't Feel That Way has been uploaded to YouTube and the video section of the Tycho Myspace. This is the clip which is available on the Transatlantic remix CD.
Unfortunately the aspect ratio is wrong for Myspace/YouTube, so it's gone all squished looking ("One thing's for sure, we're all gonna be a lot thinner!" - Han Solo). In reality it's widescreen, so if you want to view it properly you'll just have to get the CD!
transatlantic available at cd baby
Transatlantic is now available at US online store CD Baby, and is slowly making it's way around the globe for iTunes and other download services. To check out Transatlantic at CD Baby, click on the picture to your left...
under the blue moon festival
Tycho is playing at the Brisbane Under The Blue Moon Festival! It's at the Globe Theatre on Saturday 24th November, and we go on at 9:20pm! Sydneysiders The Follow and Melbourne's Schadenfreude are also on the bill, along with locals Sinamatic. Tickets are available through Oz Tix for $20 plus booking fee.
transatlantic - most jinxed CD....EVER!
Ok folks, it's official! Transatlantic is the most jinxed CD ever to grace this good earth!
This track for track remixed version of our previous album Atlantic is now *finally* available at Brisbane's Rockinghorse Records, physically on the shelf and also online (search on "tycho") for a RRP of AUD$19.95
We will also have it available at this Saturday's "Upgrade" festival for $15.
"So why are you saying it's jinxed, maaaan?", I hear you ask......well, apart from long delays in receiving remixes and requiring a complete booklet reprint, destroying the shrinkwrapping in the process and necessitating manual reassembly of the booklets into the cases, it seems that Transatlantic shares it's barcode number with another Section 44 release! The same barcode was supplied for both CDs, meaning that it's created a problem with online US supplier CD Baby with a flow on effect for digital distro (eg iTunes). Another problem to sort out! Arrrrgh!
Never mind....just go and buy it, it's actually very very good with remixes from Boxcar, Real Life, The Tenth Stage, EMP, Angeltheory, Tankt, Process Void, Garland Cult and ourselves, plus it has the video for "Don't Feel That Way" as a bonus!
When the current barcode issue is sorted out you'll read it here first :-)
tycho + boxcar + severed heads gig
Next Level and Trans:Com announce Upgrade - a showcase of live electronica featuring live performances from Tycho Brahe + Boxcar + Severed Heads + My Ninja Lover + Ponyloaf + Victor Xray + Dizzygotheca + Loveless.
Tycho is very happy to be a part of this posse of awesome local and interstate electronica. Many of you would be aware of how influential Boxcar and Severed Heads were on Ken and Andy's love of all things synth. It's been a long time between shows, so come on down for a smorgasbord of electronic music, computers, live synths and lots more.
Sounds good huh? We'd love to see you there.....
Details: From 1pm 27th October as part of the NEXT LEVEL FESTIVAL being held at the Creative Industries Precinct at QUT Kelvin Grove. Entry is free! Tycho play at 3:30pm at Parer Place.
gigs and transatlantic
There are two, possibly three live shows on the horizon....including the opening support for Assemblage 23 (USA) on Jan 4th 2008 at the Globe....
Meanwhile the apparently jinxed remix album Transatlantic is awaiting a booklet reprint after some colour problems in the initial print run....
not the psyche gig
Half of Tycho has just returned from a junket/ snowy holiday in New Zealand with all limbs relatively intact having badly "mastered" the rudiments of snowskiing. The news upon return is that contrary to previous indications Tycho will *not* be opening for Psyche in Brisbane on August 17th, it will be DJs plus Psyche only. Stay tuned!
new song uploaded to myspace
A newly completed recording, Loveless, has been uploaded to the Tycho Myspace at http://www.myspace.com/tychobraheaustralia for your listening pleasure.
In the meantime, the remix album Transatlantic is at the pressing plant with a release through US label Section 44 scheduled. The release was delayed by pressing family matters within the Tycho camp.
There are also rumours of a possible live show in mid August, so stay tuned!
happy 8th birthday, tycho website!
Eight years ago (to the day!) the first version of this site was launched: "the first unofficial tycho brahe fanboy page" was added as part of my personal website. It lived there for just a few short weeks before moving to tycho.gil.com.au on 1999.07.25.
The site stayed there until 2003.10.24 when it moved to www.tycho.com.au and here we are!
In eight years the site has provided news, mp3s, videos and photos to thousands of tychfans the world over. We've survived all manner of web rites of passage from downtime to hacks to the old favourite "web guy broke it".
For a trip down web memory lane, check out the Wayback Machine's archives of tycho.gil.com.au and tycho.com.au. I still have a soft spot for the old "in the beginning..." splash page :)
We always try to make this site fun and useful... and remember we always welcome feedback! You can drop us a line any time via the contacts page.
So anyway, happy 8th birthday to the site... here's to many happy returns!
-heretic
we're back
Our webhost finally came to the party and migrated the site to a fresh, hopefully more secure server. We now return to normal programming!
If you spot any problems, let me know. -h
take off and nuke it from orbit
...it's the only way to be sure.
Yep, things look a bit untidy around here - we've got the place held together with gaffa tape while we sort out a new home for the site. Such are the joys of running websites! :)
Fear not, there's still plenty to do:
- The email list is unaffected so why not sign up? :) http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/tycho_brahe/
- MP3s are still available for download via the raw directory listing.
- Add Tycho Brahe on MySpace
- Join the Tycho Brahe forum on Section 44
- You can of course still buy Tycho albums and tracks online and in store.
site hacked
Hi all, just a quick note to mention that yes, the server did get hacked. The 'rogue process' was probably the server admins doing a panic delete of files modified in the first attack. From what we've seen in forums, we're just one of many sites that were compromised.
So anyway, if you spot any remaining spammed pages, please let me know. -h
site glitch
For some reason several parts of the site disappeared overnight - some kind of rogue process, from the look of it (it appears anything named "index" got deleted, for anyone who's curious :)). We should be back to normal operation now, but if you hit any broken links please let me know. -h
reminder - gig wednesday night
Don't forget, this Wednesday night (14th March) at The Troubadour, Brunswick Street Mall, Fortitude Valley... Tycho Brahe with Sydney band Crystalline Effect, never and Ivan Ilych. Doors at 8pm, $10 entry.
This is Tycho's last booked show for a little while, so get along to the Troubadour - it's a great venue and a great night out. Give yourself a mid-week treat!
